Elder (Mother) Enang Bassey
Adiaha Adiaha, a descendant of the 5th son of Etinyin Oyo Ita, Ubene Oyo Ita, was born in February 1952. Her father as Elder Edet Okon Ubaha while her mother was Ma Efanga Ubene Oyo Ita.
Upon attaining school age, she was enrolled at The Presbyterian Primary School, Ikot Nakanda in Akpabuyo LGA, until 1958 when, upon her father's retirement from his employment as the Native Court Secretary and relocating to Calabar, Adiaha Adiaha was again enrolled at the Duke Town Primary School, where she completed her primary education with flying colours. It was as though Adiaha Adiaha was predestined to excel in business as soon as her dear mother introduced her into the life of trading; it was like a fish in water for her as she flourished in an incredible manner. Today, one can safely say that Adiaha Adiaha has become a household name in textile and allied businesses. This has exposed her to various important contacts with prominent personalities all over the world.
Our conferee is very sociable, an avowed philanthropist and a woman who hates things done by halves. As proof of her sociable and philanthropic nature, as well as her sense of industry, Adiaha has been trusted with many public and social offices such as current President of the National Traders and Market Leader Council of Nigeria, Cross River State chapter; current President of Market Women Association, Cross River State chapter, nominated Council Member in the palace of Obong of Calabar during the reign of Edidem (Prof) Nta Elijah Henshaw.
Her social life is also refreshing and encompassing; including the membership of the famous African Club among others.
To the glory of God, Adiaha Adiaha's early marriage to her late husband yielded seven wonderful children who she dutifully nurtured into graduates.
Her commitment to the service of God is also outstanding and immeasurable. In the African Church of Nigeria, into which she was born, she has been an elder as well as a mother for many years. Little wonder she has nurtured many youths from far and near and empowered many, including those little known to her.
It is my very pleasure, therefore, to invite our distinguished conferee, Elder (Mother) Enang Asuquo Bassey, to step forward and be conferred with the exalted title of 'OKOM' Ufok Etinyin Oyo Ita.
